What to eat on the golf course

As stated in previous articles on the subject it is vitally important to drink sufficient fluids during a round of golf, especially in the hot summer months when energy drinks (and no alcohol) are highly recommended BUT what should you eat during a round of golf?

Experts say that you are 20% what you do and 80 % what you eat and it has been calculated that during a round of golf you will burn between 1070 to 1650 calories depending whether you are walking or in a buggy so you need an energy top up during the round which can take between 4 to 5 hours

Top professionals have their own preferences with Tiger Woods choosing peanut butter sandwiches, Seve Ballesteros choose bananas and Phil Mikkelsen almonds.

They all have some things in common in that they are high in protein, loaded with healthy fats and carbohydrates which provide a much needed energy boost.

Just as important they are lite bites which don’t sit too heavy in the stomach making you feel weary and sluggish.

So there you are when you prepare your golf bag for the next game remember to add a little something for the stomach that is good for you.
