‘True Champions’
It is often stated that true champions differentiate themselves from the others by the way in which they think.
But is there something else needed?
As we live or holiday here on the Costa’s we should take a Spanish view of the subject.
In his autobiography, Seve Ballesteros stated that “There are many good players but they are not champions in their hearts, they do not have it inside to become true champions”.
Take a good, long and hard look at yourself, does this describe you and do you only play golf hoping to win with an element of ‘ Buena Suerte’ or good luck?
During the 1979 British Open at Royal Lytham, Roberto De Vicenzo spoke the following words to Seve before his victorious final round:
“Tienes las manos, ahora juega con tu corazon” or you have the hands now play with your heart.
So there you have it, to be a true champion you need good technique, talent, patience, desire, mental strength, self-belief and heart.
If you aspire to be a true champion you should check yourself against these elements of character required and where you fall short – do something about it.
Change something because to continue to do the same things, in the same way and expect different results will only result in failure and frustration.
