Changes to the Rules of Golf 2019

I have recently written two blogs of interest in respect of the R&A rules changes for 2019 which were well received by the local golfing population here on the Costa Blanca as the golf authorities had done little by way of information distribution themselves expecting golfers to obtain this years rule book and trawl throught it for such information. I was contactd by an expert on these rule changes called Richard Palmer, to remind golfers of all abilities that for the correct information they should only rely on the information which can be found at www.randa.com and sited the following two examples of where slight wording and interpretation errors may result in problems for golfers: Example 1 – “drop a ball for 2 shot penalty when out of bounds rather then play three from the tee” For clarity this is only applicable if the committee adopts the recommended LOCAL RULE but this will certainly not be implemented in any competition play. Example 2 – “distance for free and penalty drops remain the same but can be measured with any club in the bag except the putter” For clarity the definition of a club length is ‘The length of the longest club other than a putter’. Just a couple of examples here but there could be many more as it appears that many articles published on the internet and in popular golf magazines have such incorrect wording and interpretation issues.
