Covid-19 Safety Protocol Update

On the 15th March 2020 Spain entered the first phase of lockdown and golf courses were allowed to re-open as from the 11th May 2020 BUT with a Covid-19 Golfing Safety Protocol that included such elements as:

Wearing of masks.

No hugs and kisses.

No sharing buggies.

No touching flags.

Stops in holes.

No rakes in bunkers.

No benches in use.

No water fountains in use.

No calling through on the course.

Changing facilities closed.

Go direct from car to course 5 minutes before play.

Restaurant facilities closed.

No cleaning equipment at the course (clubs and shoes).

Go home immediately after the round.

This all seems like a long time ago but we then experienced another lockdown in January 2021 when golf courses were once again closed.

Since then we have seen infection levels in the Valencian community drop to less than 30 per 100,000 and the enhancement of the vaccination programme and while cases have increased with the introduction of more freedom of movement and the arrival of tourists the golf courses have been able to relax a number of the protocol rules.

My advice is that you check the rules at the course you are playing but in general with the exception of the need to wear masks when you can’t socially distance and avoiding close contact many of the above restrictions have now been removed.
