Around and About the Golf Courses – La Tercia

Around and about the courses – La Tercia

During the last three years of the economic crisis that swept across the world like a plague we a devoted golfers saw the impact with the closure of three golf courses based in Murcia, namely Corvera,La Tercia and Mosa Trajectum.

Each of these courses were part of a golf resort complex, designed by world renown course architects and with ambassadors such as Johan Cruyff.

These courses were designed to be almost self sufficient and green by recycling water from the urbanisations to re-use on the golf courses.

Sadly as the urbanisations were under populated there was insufficient water to keep the golf courses in tip top condition which in turn reflected on the numbers playing the courses and ultimately the financial bottom line, sadly leading in each case to closure.

Have you ever thought what happens to a golf course when it closes?

Last week I was in the area of La Tercia and called in to see the developments over the last two years.

The magnificent clubhouse is still in good order but looks lost and forlorn

The aqua driving lake is empty but for a few dregs of rain water.

The chipping and putting greens next to the clubhouse are completely overgrown and show no signs of ever being well prepared areas.

Standing on the first tee was eerie because the ‘vista’ down the hole was of any natural waste land with no signs of the well manicured fairways, aprons, greens and bunkers that previously existed.

May be with an upturn in the world’s financial situation perhaps a bank somewhere will re-develop the course as an aid to selling the many properties and apartments that border the old course.
