Costa Blanca - Golf Courses to the South
Aguilon - This par 70,18-hole course is spectacular and offers a unique experience for golfers of all levels. The golf course is set against the Aguilon mountains but with superb views of Pulpi Bay.
The course designer has set a stiff challenge with in excess of 100 bunkers,6 large lakes and natural ravines testing every aspect of the golfers game with the par 5 14th hole being the 'signature' hole with an elevated green sitting on top of a wall.
Altorreal - Golf club is a beautiful course, with superb mountain views
and an abundance of olive and pine trees.
Clever use of water features means golfers must manage the
course carefully, especially on the 9th and 18th holes. Altorreal Golf club offers varied play,
with a combination of
flat and hilly holes.
Set in the hills just north of Murcia is the beautiful
undulating golf course of Altorreal. It is situated in a
natural environment with over 20,000 trees including
olive, pine and carod trees.
Desert Springs - The Par 72 international championship Arizona desert style course of Desert Springs is situated in Almeria and was opened to the public in 2001.
The course was designed by Peter McEvoy and has been used for many Spanish championship tournaments. The Indiana course can be both fun and challenging, and it is always visually stunning; bright green fairways contrast vibrantly with the surrounding arid landscape of cactus, rock and flowering desert.
Over 500,000 plants were planted on the Indiana Course, where you will also encounter 104 bird species. There are over 150,000 cactus on the course, from 209 different species which are cultivated in their own nursery.
Enhancing the appeal of Desert Springs are properties available for rental with the option of self catering, Bed & Breakfast, Half Board or Full Board.
El Valle -
The El Valle Golf Resort is located in a natural
park area situated near to the Sierra Carrascoy mountains on the ‘corridor of golf’ along the C-3319 Murcia to San Javier highway and although set in a ‘desert’ setting with numerous rocks and caves.
Jack Nicklaus has incorporated features from many courses that he played during his illustrious career, with raised undulating greens with run off areas reminiscent of those seen at Augusta, many US Open venues and in Scotland.
Rather than relying upon length this course focuses attention on the players ‘imagination’ and shot making skills with a strong emphasis upon good course management with the actual landing areas on the greens and chipping and pitching onto these raised greens could make you look very ‘silly’ if your ‘touch and feel’ is not good on the day.
The Hacienda Del Alamo -
The Hacienda Del Alamo golf resort was designed by Dave Thomas
and is located close to the local village of Fuente Alamo in the centre of the region of Murcia with views of numerous fruit, almond and olive plantations but still less than a half hour drive from the City of Murcia and the nearest airport which is located at San Javier.
The Costa Blanca golf course was designed by Dave Thomas and at 6,724 metres (7,400 yards) is claimed to be the longest golf course in Spain and currently boasts Ryder Cup player, Miguel Angel Jiminez as their golf ‘ambassador’ and he is also the course record holder with a fine 5-under par score of 67.

Hacienda
Riquelme -
The Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort designed by Jack Nicklaus, was opened to the public in May 2008 and is located in the area adjacent to Peraljea Golf and is approximately 15 minutes drive from the C-3319 Murcia-San Javier highway and near the small village of Avileses and the town of Sucina.
The course is in good condition with tees, greens, fairways and primary rough in good order but it is fair to say that the secondary cut of rough, hills and the side of some sides of bunkers still need some time to ‘mature’. The ‘war on the shore’ Ryder Cup match was played in 1991 at the Pete Dye designed course of Kiawah island and this course puts me in mind of that course, particularly the type of grass used and the positioning and shape of the many bunkers.
La Manga -
is for those who dream of playing golf on
beautiful, top quality courses in an ideal, year-round
climate, La Manga Club is the perfect golf destination.

La Manga Club has always been synonymous with golf and, with
its three championship courses and outstanding practice
facilities. The resort has also recently been chosen as the
official winter training base of the German PGA in Spain.
Many international tournaments have been hosted at La Manga
Club, including the Spanish Open, Spanish PGA Championships,
Spanish Junior Championships, Ladies' Spanish Open and Senior
Spanish Open for men, not to mention countless televised
corporate and celebrity golf events.
La Peraleja -
The latest addition to exclusive golf resorts in Murcia is the Severiano Ballesteros designed La Peraleja Golf Club which is a challenge to all standards of golfer at 6,089 metres or 6,698 yards (white tees) and it reflects the experiences of ‘Sevvy’ on different golfing continents across the world and almost every hole presents golfers with a challenge.
La Serena -
This Costa Blanca golf resort is located close to Los Alcazares and the waters
of the Mar Menor and San Javier airport are only 10 minutes away and
it is only a short drive to cities such as Murcia, Cartagena and the
world famous La Manga.
The course itself 'wraps' around the 500 year old Torre del Rame
which was built to keep watch for pirates from North Africa.
The facilities include clubhouse, restaurant and excellent practice
areas with plans for shops, hotels, spa's and tennis courts in the
near future.
The course is an excellent test of golf with water hazards on
sixteen of eighteen holes but will not suit golfers who's natural
shot is short in length with a left to right ball flight because that
is where the water is located.
La Tercia -
This 9 hole golf course has a unique ‘aqua' driving range which is
the only one of its type in Spain and which simply must be experienced by every golfer who visits this course.
This Costa Blanca Golf course was designed by Jose Gancedo who was also the designer of La Finca and you can see many of his ‘trademark’ features on this course including the variation in green size and shape and the additional 19th hole.
The main feature of this golf course is the ‘Ramblas’ (dry river bed) which winds its way through the centre of the course.
La Torre Golf - The La Torre golf resort is situated close to Roldan which is a
small Spanish town situated close to the AP7 motorway
and only 10km from San Javier Airport.
The golf course provides excellent practice facilities close
to the club house with a driving range and putting green.

The additional facilities available include an indoor pool and
gymnasium,14 treatment rooms and a relaxation room plus the La
Encina Buffet Restaurant, reception and pro-shop. The golf
course is generally open for play from 8.00am and the other
facilities are usually open from 9.00am until approx 23.00pm.
Lorca Resort Golf & Spa -
Lorca Resort Golf & Spa has all imaginable services: a fully-equipped 18-hole golf course designed by Dave Thomas and Jorge Soler, and will be complemented by a sports complex with tennis and paddle tennis courts, fitness and complete Spa / Wellness centre and a 5-star hotel.
Another attraction is its location, with views to the Sierra de Almenara, very near the historic town of Lorca and a few minutes from the beaches at Aguilas and its still undiscovered coast.
Mar Menor -
This golf course is located only 15 minutes drive from San Javier airport and
close to Torre Pacheco on land that was previously a fruit orchard and the original nine hole golf course designed by Dave Thomas has been extended to an eighteen hole layout designed by Jack Nicklausf.
Although the new holes were opened approx 2 years after the course was opened if is difficult to see the ‘join’ as these new holes have been easily integrated and combined with the existing holes resulting in a par 72 course of 5,801 metres (6,381 yards) which is relatively short by modern standards but with three lakes positioned on both ‘nines’ just to make things ‘interesting’.
Without doubt this is an ideal resort or society golf course with an emphasis based on positioning the ball in the correct part of the fairway from the tee and then below the flags on the undulating greens.
Mosa Trajectum - This golf course will probably be the first ‘desert’ type golf course that many of you will have every seen with something like 20,000 cacti and more than 8,000 palm trees planted on the course which is constructed on terrain reminiscent of Arizona in the USA.
Designed specifically to incorporate a number of ecological firsts in the region, the course has numerous varieties of special plants and a unique irrigation system which uses up to 70% less‘re-cycled’ water which is vitally important to such an arid region as Murcia.
Over the last few years this course has suffered due to the lack of water on the complex culminating in problems with the fairways and the water hazards but the course has now been reduced from 27 holes to 18 holes and is recovering and there are some very good green fee deals to be obtained in these difficult economic times.
Roda Golf - Roda Golf opened it's doors to the public on
June 30th 2006. The 18-hole par 72
(6,137 metres) golf course was designed by Dave
Thomas, one of the most prestigious European golf
designers. He said that he was very satisfied with
his ability to transform a practically level land into a waved
golf course. Lakes have been located in strategic places and
the layout was created by combining different environments and
working with and adaptation to the Mediterranean landscape and
vegetation.
The Golf Course Designer, Dave Thomas
Limited, has been fortunate in this project to be
able to import sufficient fill to change flat
low-lying ground into interesting and undulating
golf terrain which aims to be pleasing to the eye
and challenging for the golfers. Roda Golf's use of lakes optimize the views from the
hotel and country club as well as playing an
important part in the golf design. Roda Golf has
quite rightly placed a great deal of emphasis on
landscaping and tree planting and this has been
integrated with considerable care into the golf
design. Golfers will find Roda Golf Resort
the perfect spot to put their skills into
practice.
Saurines de la Torre -
The course is a par 72 measuring 5,938 metres (6,531 yards) from the yellow tees which is relatively short by modern standards but is ideal for resort and society golf.
The course is very lightly bunkered has only two lakes but one of these measure some six hectares in size and plays a strategic role on a number of key holes which wrap themselves around this vast expanse of water.
While being promoted as a desert style course by the designer it actually gives a ’links’ feel with many of the holes snaking between ‘dunes’ with rolling fairways and undulating greens.
