Seve Ballesteros designed the superb course at La Peraleja which was planned to be exclusive and in fact when first opened the green fee price was €90 (walking). Local golfers will be aware the in subsequent years they have has numerous problems with a number of fairways as a result of high salt levels at the grass root killing the grass in large areas. To be fair to the owners of La Peraleja they have reflected the poor condition of the fairways with hugely reduced green fee prices at circa €30-35 including buggy (and still people complained). I held a meeting with them last week and can report that they now have a plan to re-deign and re-seed the fairways to eliminate the problem in the near future. The cost of this re-modelling work could be as high as €120K but will eliminate the problems once and for all. Clearly the green fee prices will increase to the normal levels in the area as the course returns to its former glory so my advice to you is to fill your boots while you still can at these crazy low prices.
