Born in Stone, Staffordshire one early morning in 1959 the son of a miner and ultimately one of six children although my mother reminds me that I cried and grizzled more than any of the others (sorry mum).

I developed into a quiet and pleasant child of average learning ability but with a passion for sport only dented by the need to wear glasses as thick as jam jar bottoms from the age of 6 years of age.

Having decided in my mid-teens that golf was the game for me my father purchased for me, at a cost of £15, a half set of Peter Thomson irons and also paid for membership of Beaudesert Golf Club, which to this day is still the best golf course that I have ever played.

My golf developed in leaps and bounds and within one year I was playing off a handicap of 3 and a member of the Staffordshire County team where I played with and against such great golfers as Lee Westwood, Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam, Peter Baker and David Gilford.

The clear difference between their golfing ability and mine quickly persuaded me that I could not compete with them in the professional ranks and so I sought an honest profession with a multi-national company for whom I worked for 30 years accumulating numerous qualifications with various professional institutions along the way.

Being married with children and having re-located to Torrevieja in Spain in 2004, I decided that after many years of working for someone else that I would work for myself in the golf industry here in Spain.

Subsequently I have become well known in golfing circles on the Costa Blanca as a golf columnist in local English language newspapers, in golf magazines, on golf specific web-sites and on local radio, specialising in golf psychology, coaching and golf course reviews.

All of these experiences allow me to be considered by many as a local ‘expert’ and as such capable of writing this book
