Around and about the courses

Around and About the courses’

The period from 1st March to 30th May is considered to be HIGH SEASON when prices are at their highest and the courses at their busiest and this year is no different.

It is fair to say that given the indifferent weather conditions in recent months and the huge amount of traffic on the courses in March and April a number of our local courses are showing the signs of wear and in need of a rest or warmer weather.

A regular feature of these golf columns is to provide resident and tourist golfers with the INSIDE TRACK on what is happening on some of the local courses and below are just a few updates.

La Peraleja

The course closed in December 2016 and basic maintenance is taking place to keep the greens alive and the course saleable and there are believed to be up to four offers on the table to purchase the course and facilities.

Alicante

The course has suffered a disease in the greens since the Autumn of 2016 which has been OVER SEEDED OUT and the greens are much improved but still not at their normal high standards

Altorreal

The course was purchased a few years ago by new owners who have conducted numerous improvements to the course and driving range and as a result the course is always a favourite of local golfers and well worth the journey but be aware that they started hollow tining at the end of April and the greens will take 15 days to recover depending on the weather and temperatures.

New Sierra Golf

This 9 hole courses re-opened to the public a few months ago and is proving popular with some of the best greens in the area.

El Valle

Unfortunately they recently had an electrical fire which destroyed all the buggies and electric trolleys and while they have managed to procure 20 new buggies they are operating with this depleted fleet of buggies and it will be this way in the near future so if playing there shortly you may find no buggies available for new bookings.

Vistabella

The current plan is to seed the fairways and rough on the additional 7 holes in June 2017 (greens arleady seeded) with a forecast to open the 18 hole layout in October 2017 but be aware they hollow tined the greens last week on the existing 11 holes and these will take 15 days to recover depending on the weather and temperatures.

We will keep you updated of any development in the forthcoming months.
